What Friends Do

Friends volunteers help by doing things like:

  • Sorting books and other donated materials
  • Recycling/redistributing un-sellable goods
  • Working a shift in the Bookstore (see "Friends Bookstore Volunteers" below)
  • Researching value for donated material
  • Scanning book covers and uploading book info to Internet sale sites Packing and shipping online book sales

Friends Bookstore Volunteers

Bookstore volunteers are needed for the following tasks:

  • Handle cash transactions of used books in the bookstore.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing.
  • Those interested in decorating may enjoy creating small displays of books and other materials.
  • May also perform basic Library/office tasks as needed.
  • Great opportunity for homeschoolers. (See below)

Friends Membership

Another way to support the Library is through a Membership with the Friends.

  • Working together for the good of the Greater Elizabethtown Area
  • Raising money to support Library programs Providing community resources at a good price Showing appreciation and support to other volunteers
Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age. (This may qualify for school mandated community service.) All volunteers will be asked to complete a  volunteer application and background check.
 
Volunteer hours are operational hours of Elizabethtown Public Library: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 10AM-8PM. Wednesday, Friday: 10AM-2PM. Saturday: 9AM-4PM.

Home school Opportunities @ the Friends Bookstore

This may be a great opportunity for home schooling families:

  • Use the environment of Elizabethtown Public Library and its Bookstore as a working classroom.
  • Teach about money, colors, Dewey Decimal System, cataloging, and many more topics.
  • Provide an important community service as volunteers of the Library. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Learn valuable life and Library skills.
